Rock of Ages got a visit from one of the most shredding families in the rock biz on April 9, when guitarist Lita Ford of The Runaways, hubby Jim Gillette of Nitro and mohawk-ed sons James and Rocco dropped by the campy ‘80s comedy to see what heavy metal fans in the know have been chattering about ever since the show took the stage. The girls of ROA, including new star Emily Padgett, were especially empowered by the run-in, since The Runaways were the original set of seriously cool all-girl rock rebels to hit the scene during their reign in the 1970s. (PS: Ford hasn’t been idle since the band went its separate ways either—the bombshell had a hot solo career, met and married Gillette and reportedly has a reality TV series titled The Gillettes: An Extreme American Family in the works.) Lita Ford actually split for a Caribbean island in the mid 90s to shack up with rocker husband Jim Gillette and start a family. Lita and Jim home schooled their two pre-teen sons, and grew their own food. Sound like a fantasy? Well, what makes my dreams come true is: Lita’s BACK!

“Wicked Wonderland” is not some safe bet crassly calculated attempt to live off past glories it’s a BEAST of an album! The primary theme running through the pummeling tunes is kinky sex. Apparently the couple likes it nasty, and are cool with letting us know all about it. Songs like ‘Inside’ (“Feel me from the inside”), and ‘Bed’ (“Tie me to the bed, spank me ‘cause I like it”) plainly lay it out across the silk sheets for us all to enjoy.

Producer Greg Hampton goes for the huge production he’s known for, giving “Wicked Wonderland” a sinister vibe somewhere between Rob Zombie and Deborah Frost’s Brain Surgeons. Roberta Zombie? The Bra Surgeons? Call it what you will, just give me more, ‘cause it’s sexy as hell and rocks like a MOTHER!

Lita Ford is capping off a banner year by being named FMQB's 2009 Best Female Artist in the Rock category in the music and radio trade magazine's annual FMQB Artist Leaders 2009 honors.

Lita's counterparts in the Best Female Artist category include such heavyweights as Beyonce (Rhythm), Taylor Swift (CHR), Pink (AC/Hot AC), and Metric's Emily Haines (Modern). Winners will be posted on fmqb.com next week.

"To be gone so long and come back to such an amazing reception has been awesome," says Lita. "We really have our fans to thank as they supported us out on the road, as well as rock and metal radio who put us back on the airwaves. And, of course, our team who worked hard behind-the-scenes to make Wicked Wonderland a success."

The Queen of Metal's return to rock came after a 14-year hiatus from recording with the October release of Wicked Wonderland. The lead track from the explosive album, "Crave," a duet featuring husband Jim Gillette, made a major dent in rock radio this fall and winter as it reached No. 7 on CMJ's charts in October.

And, the accolades didn't stop there. Reviews of Lita's show with Queensryche had such media outlets as Examiner.com raving, "Seeing Lita for a short time makes it feel like a dream. During the Philadelphia show, she took the stage like a crazed tigress and pranced around while members of Queensryche played 'Patriotic SOB' and 'Crave' from her new CD, Wicked Wonderland."

Lita's last order of business for 2009 will be participating in Alice Cooper's 9th Annual Christmas Pudding Concert in Phoenix, Arizona on December 18 with Cooper, Roger Clyne & the Peacemakers, Twisted Sister's Dee Snider, American Idol top 10 finalist Scott MacIntyre, Gary Mule Deer, Runaway Phoenix, TV personality Brad Perry’s aptly titled band the Brad Perry Band, and River of Life Choir.

"2009 was better than I ever hoped for, but we promise that 2010 will rock even harder!" adds Lita.
